Link Strap Snaps

Having recently dug a two wire snap link in a camp, I thought I knew that it went in the small loop of the curb chain of the horse bit and was used by the person tending the horse as a way to lead the animal around the camp. After a little research I discovered I was wrong. The snap link is found on one end of a link strap. This strap was used to connect horses together during and engagement so that a single soldier could easily handle two or three horses connected at the bit loops. I suppose they could also be used as a lead iin camp as well.

Hope this helps,
