Likes/Dislikes on the Tigershark

Gonehunting

New member
I'm the final stages of deciding on an underwater detector. Application is fresh water and sandy lake beaches. I would like to hear from Tigershark owners what do like about the machine vs dislike. Would you buy another if you were to lose yours? Any help would be appreciated.

I've had mine since spring of 2001, would buy another new one with the hardwired 8 inch coil if mine disappeared mysteriously:huh:

It hits hard on small gold and my wife will attest to that fact:devil:

OK Gonehunting

Got a little more time to post likes & dislikes and I don't like to type that much so TS = Tiger Shark

I like that the TS has a fast response and recovery speed, by disc'ing out small nails, bobby pins and other small ferrous trash it will signal on partially iron masked coins or jewelery. I dont mind it not having multi-tones, but some like their detectors to have this feature. I dig the whole conductivity spectrum from medium small foil and up through pulltabs and including silver, I dig it all. The TS has a monotone audio and it is descriptive if you learn it's language. I like the fact that it is manually ground balanced and can be adjusted to the ground you are hunting at. It has two auto tuned all-metal modes. The Slow autotuned all-metal is worthless to me, but the all-metal Fast can be used to hunt with and the Fast auto tuned all-metal mode is the one to be used when adjusting the manual ground balance. I just hunt in the motion disc mode and can pinpoint with the TS real well after some time playing with it. Some people don't like the fact that the sensitivity adjustment is on the inside of the case, has'nt bothered me though, adjusted it once when I first bought it and is non-issue for me. Headphone volume is an internal adjustment also and all-metal threshold loudness adjustment is internal too, no big deal there. I adjusted my sensitivity a little higher than factory setting and headphone and threshold to my personal taste and have not changed a thing! It sounds like I work for Tesoro, I don't but the TS is the newest Tesoro that I own, so I have not bought any thing new from them in a long time. Just my two zincs.

I have to pretty much go along with Hombre. I'd be posting the same reply, basically.

Other than some of the adjustments being internal, I have always read the TS is by far the best waterproof detector for fresh water hunting. I have never used one since I hunt salt water beaches, but still may end up with one at some point since I am seriously thinking of getting into some lake hunting.

Seems it would be a darn good land hunter too with no worries about the weather too !

therover

I have used the TS on several land hunts, it runs great in the iron, and with the control box mounted under the arm cuff,(can be either way) it balances really good. I have resisted the urge to mount it on a straight shaft, because I like the control box mounted in the underslung stock position as shown in add pictures for water hunting with the control knobs at my finger tips. The TS, when submerged in the water remains in a nuetral bouyancy, so I like the stock position (underslung) when water hunting. Get a good stainless water scoop and you are set:tesoro:

if you have to have only one VLF FRESH water, single tone detecting machine that can be an almost turn on and go one set up it's the Tigershark.
You will be amazed at the small silver and gold it will find!!
And it works great on the sunny beach after you get too cold to water hunt. A perfect way to end a day.

And the configuration you use for water hunting. Seems the TS can be a worry free land unit too. There is something about being able to totally hose off a unit after a days hunt and make all nice n new looking that is a plus in my book !

For fresa water hunting the shark is a very good detector I do well with it. salt water it chatter a little but I do well with it I was out for the first time the other day on a salt water beach. Found some clad coins two rings one was sterling silver the other was copper and also found a 1944 mercury dime. It was a good way to start the year off.

Hello,
First the positive:

Great in iron.
Detects small gold.
Deep enough for me.
Very fast recovery speed.

The negative:

For a while I never got to use it much because my daughter coveted it and I let her use it. The resolution to the problem? I bought another one! Problem solved!

We have an Minelab Excalibur which is one of the great water detectors, but in fresh water we always reach for the Tiger Shark. Sometimes i will go in afterward with the Excal but the Tiger Shark gets 95% of the good stuff, much faster then the Excalibur.

Get one you will not be sorry!

Kind regards,
Steve
