Note that at the end of his post he added a :canadaflag:

Canada uses a lot of $1 and $2 coins and I envy those who are able to put in the detecting time at any high-traffic site when you have high-value coins. The folks in :ausflag: have a really nice $2 coin that responds pretty well, isn't too large (making it easier for folks to carry more of them) and that's another place where "Coin Hunting" can be more rewarding.

Here in the :usaflag: we have some $1 coins, but for some nutty reason a lot of people want to hoard and collect them. I often ask for $1 coins at a bank just to spend them at stores and try to circulate them more. I wish we would dump the paper dollar and promote the $1 coins, then put some $2 coins in circulation as well.

I would just be happy to go back on the gold standard. I know I know it will never happen.

I am extremely new to this, about 2 days so far. A little cold up here, should I wait until spring or go out for a walk and see what is around?

Fred116, bundle up and take the detector for a walk. Even if the ground is too frozen to dig you can practice and get to know your machine. You might even find some recently dropped coins or jewelry on the surface. Look for some "pea gravel", sand, or wood chip playgrounds.
