Lighting rod black straight shaft or the Babs straight shaft

Which one is lighter and and are they set up the same for the Excal. I did see the hip mount with the strain relief on it that I liked. How much of a pain is it to run allmetal and switch back and forth to dis. Which set up do you like stright shaft or hip mount with the strain relief. The one with the strain relief would be the only hip mount I would use. Anyway just need a few thoughts. I am mostly a water hunter and have used a CZ20 and Shadow X5 with the long cords for a lot of years. Ya'll keep on :detecting: Thanks Jerry aka Tinfoil

Hey Tinfoil, I don't hip mount, but recently went with the Lightening Rod. I LOVE IT! Unless it is insane trashy, I run in all metal, clicked just out of auto, so it's about 8 or 9. Then when I get a signal, I switch over to disc for a quick ferrous check. I get good depth and max sensitivity that way. Good luck with yer decision. GH

I think they are both alum. and should weight the same. I just want to know what works best for you guys. Do the Excells mount the same way on both shafts. I really hate to have to go and buy both shafts to find out which is the best set up. Thanks Jerry aka Tinfoil.

look for pictures from grave digger , I think we all use the same setup. melt holes in the belt and use plastic nuts and bolts found at home depot to secure it.

Hey Tinfoil, go back about a month or so when I was going through this same painstaking proceedure. David & Mike posted pics of their rigs and went with David's set-up, because it looked a little cleaner to me, plus they come in black now. The unit looks sexy. If I took my own pics, I would post it, but Huntress is in charge of photography and she's tired.

Here is a link to a post about a week ago By Steve and Bia, The picture toward the bottom of the post is a black lightning rod. 18th picture down
