Lightest Metal Detector

I'm curious if anyone has researched which VLF detector is the lightest.
I mostly interested in a very light, high quality land detector.
I know coils make a big difference so to be fair I'm going to say with the stock coil.
I'm looking for a gift for my wife. (I'm hoping she'll take up the hobby)
Up till now she has always found them hard to swing.(For an extended time)
My ACE250 isn't bad but I'm wondering if there is an ultralight model available?
I could do the research myself but I'm thinking someone else has already done the research or a dealer knows this off the top of his head.
Balance could/should also be a consideration.
Thanx in advance!

Probably a Tesoro is going to be the lightest, although I hear the T2 and the new Fishers are pretty light too. I owned a Tesoro Bandido II Umax and that thing was VERY light.

Well if you are looking for a machine in the price range of your ACE 250 then the T2 and F75 are likely out as they are in the $800 to $1000 range which is a lot to spend on a detector for a wife who may or may not stick with the hobby (though you could always buy one for yourself and give her the 250  )

The uMaxes are probably the lightest ones as Critterhunter said, but they don't have target ID meters which might not suit your wife. If you are looking for a metered machine in the $200 to $300 price range look at the Fisher F2, Teknetics Delta, White's coinmaster or the Minelab Xterra 305 all of them are fairly light and well balanced.

The Omega is probably the best swinger out there for the price. It is light and swings really nice.

You can't beat the Tesoros and the Deus for lightness but you are sacrificing a TID on the cheaper Tesoros and you are sacrificing a lot on money for the Deus. I think you will have to pick what features she wants in a certain price range to narrow the field down and then read some manuals Gabby.

Ace 250 2.70 lbs
Fisher F2 2.6 lbs
Teknetics Delta 4000 2.2 lbs
Tesoro Cibola 2.2 lbs
Tesoro compadre 2.2 lbs
XP deus 2.15 lbs

There you go.

I don't know if it is the lightest but it the Cortes swings easily and is very light. My wife likes hers very much and she is a petite woman.

got to be the dues , 995 grams for the stem and coil .
control box goes on the arm or in shirt pocket .

Deus might be light, but the price sure isn't.

Tesoro is the lightest and in my opinion, the best buy for your money.

Don't worry about sacrificing the TID screen (though can buy the DeLeon and the Cortes from Tesoro if you REALLY want one).

I think TID screens are very overrated.

If you need manual ground balance, I'd grab a Vaquero.

If you don't, the Cibola and the Golden uMax are both excellent.

If you want light and inexpensive, Compadre and Silver uMax with the edge to the Compadre, IMHO.

Bounty Hunter Platinum is mighty lite. It's weights a bit less than my F2. I've have a lot of upper back pain and either one I can swing all day.

You could go with a hip mount machine, like the CZ's, don't get much lighter than the just the stick and coil. Of course you could hang a little 5" coil on the end of that stick.

You could also do a sling for just about any detector and that can take the weight to about zero.

I would have to go with the Tesoro Compadre. I paid $160 new. It does not have a TID, or screen, I do not need one. I have two machines with TID,and they just sit 80-90% of the time now. I might sell them and look at another Tesoro without a screen. Possibly the Cibola or vaquero. I have found my best stuff with the Compadre. Most targets within 5-7" so less deep digging. 5 3/4" inch coil makes it a cinch to pinpoint. You may buy it for her use it and then have to buy a second one for you, because you will want to use hers all of the time. Tesoro also has a lifetime warranty on all their machines, best in the business. I have found tons of clad, jewelry gold and silver with it. In my last 5 hunts I found 4 pieces of silver jewelry. In less than a year it has more than paid for itself. Hands down you will never regret buying it.

i agree with many above Tesero,s are great light machines easy to use and work realy well for the price tag i live in france and till recently they have been the most popular brand cost wise next to there own brands lower to mid xp range i still see them used all the time and many detectorists still prefere using them for fun outings and they always find loads of stuff :)

Tesoro would be the lightest performance detector, these are great to use and some models do come with a ID screen.Price wise you usually have to pay a little more for a better detector.HH Ron

Thanx to everyone for your thoughts and insight. The tesoro's seem to be a favorite out there for easy swinging machines.
Now to figure out how much I want to spend????

Just my 2 cents

I had a Tesoro Compadre and Silver uMax and while both are very light, as far as weight goes, but I found the balance made them feel heavier than others weighing much more. Too front heavy can make then feel heavier. I thought the F75 seemed real light.
