Li-ion 9 volt batteries

I see that the online vendors are offering lithium ion rechargeable 9 volt batteries for about $3.50-$5.00 each with claimed capacities of up to 700 mA and little no-load spontaneous discharging. Have any of you tried those and if so, how did you like them?

On another note, I'm nearly 61 years old and all my life had excellent vision. Out of the blue with no warning I developed a detached retina due to shrinking of the vitreous gel pulling the retina. Had I been getting regular vision checks from a MD, I may have been spared the permanent vision lost I will encounter. My advice to all is to get regular vision checks. Can you imagine how sucky it would be to go MDing while blind?

Yes, just tried a few the other day. Require an initial charge, the charger had no instructions and eBay seller was useless. However they did charge up to 8.57 volts after 3+ hrs. and working fine on my Lone Star and Pin Pointer. Have not had to recharge yet. FYI the charger, batteries and digital meter are all Chinese mfg. and appear to be working fine

I'm surprised that they did not charge over 9 volts. I have used NiMh batteries and they charged to close to 10 volts initially then settled down to about 9.3 or something like that.

Yes, I had the same experience with the NiMh batteries. I am in Munds Park, about 20 miles south of Flagstaff.

I broke down and purchased a pack of 8 9 volt lithium ion batteries and received them last week. I gave them an initial charge and installed them in both my Legacy 3500 and my Pioneer 505. So far they seem to work just fine. I'll let you know how many hours they last before they need to be recharged as soon as I use my detectors long enough to get them to that point. The neat thing is, I didn't need to get a new charger for them because the charger that came with my NI-MH batteries works just fine for charging lithium ion batteries.

Also have you tried these 9 volt lithium ion batteries in other portable electrical devices like multimeters, studfinders, old AM/FM portable radios...

It's been hot up here this past week, so I haven't been out detecting do to the extreme heat and hard ground. Once it cools down a bit and it rains enough to soften up the ground, I'll get out with the detectors. I don't like digging under these conditions because the dry conditions prevent the grass from recovering after retrieving the finds.
