Let's Talk the Tiger Shark

Tfor2

New member
I've never owned one but am becoming increasingly interested.

Now, if I understand Tesoro's description, the Tiger Shark is basically the old Bandido series with extra salt water capabilities--right?

They make a cable adapt land water adapter so one can use any land coil with the Tiger Shark. Well, at least that's what the nice lady at Tesoro told me over the phone.

Any comments of corrections?

Thanks

The Tiger does have a "Salt" mode but it is not the best salt water machine. In many places it will chatter badly, not so much in others. Now in fresh water it is a killer. And yes, Tesoro makes an adapter cable which allows you to use any of the uMax coils on it, but of course its not water proof (the cable junction). The Tiger works equally well on land. Comes stock with an 8" donut coil, and there is an opptional 10.5" water coil as well.

Thanks for the reply, Scully.

I've heard that the Tiger is basically a waterproof Bandido and I've heard the Bandido series was one of Tesoro's better model lines.

Scully, that 10.5 coil option; is that a 5-pin uMax coil?

If the Tiger is a Bandido it should be 5-pin and uMax.

And the connector is a special water-proof connector. It doesnt match any of the land coil connectors, which is why you need the adapter cable to use uMax coils with it.

Scully you're a dealer so I'll ask you this: Does that 10.5" coil labeled "uMax" offered by dealers work on uMax land machines? Is there any way to get it to work on land machines?

I've contacted Tesoro and several dealers directly and so far none seems to understand what I'm saying.

I've asked them all if that 10.5" uMax coil (the white donut coil) will work on the land uMax machines.

1. Tesoro said "yes it'll work but you need an adapter....I'll get back with you today" (they never did)

2. most dealers with sites online I emailed never responded

3. I called several dealers and none were there to answer the phone

4. several said flat out "no it won't work"

5. one dealer said "It should work but I don't have them in stock"

So, I keep riding the merry-go-round. I'm calling Tesoro again when I complete this post.

Why am I doing this? Well, I happen to know that in the UK people use the old Silver Sabre detectors fixed with a 10.5 uMax Tesoro brand donut coil and it's fabulous.

One person in the UK told me the coil was the one used on the Tiger Shark. So that's why I've been trying now for months to get a straight answer from someone in this country.
