Hi, If you are like me you are kept in a ball of mass confusion about what's going on with the Garrett AT Pro.....I think Garrett should announce an official statement regarding the AT Pro....Is there a new board or software upgrade?? Is there a new S rod & cam locks?? What do they look like?? How much money will it cost?? Will the warranty cover this?? Are they now leak proof?? Etc....Etc....There's nothing on their website concerning these issues...I believe we as loyal consumers deserve a much needed respectful answer to these questions and not be kept in the dark....Furthermore we should not have to be confined to a forum waiting for someone to post more information about these issues....Lord knows I love my Garrett's,, I just think we should be more informed so we can also feel like part of the Garrett Team....Thanks....JJ

I agree. My machine was one of the "falsers", got it fixed, but it does other funny things...like go absolutely haywire sometimes (not even near power lines or any interference). Gotta turn it off for at least 15 minutes and it works fine again. When it's working right, I totally love it, but I hate the uncertainty of not knowing if there is something really wrong. This upgrade seems like a pretty good idea. I only have 2.5 months of detecting left this year before old man winter shows up, and I don't want to waste a month of it sending it for repairs (I'm in Canada). I wish they would just send me a new problem-free AT Pro.

Hi Johnny Cache,,,Forums are a good place to get your particular question answered....If all else fails then the Garrett company is only a phone call away in your situation....I can't answer your question about an upgrade or if one is even available...It just seems to me that an official statement from Garrett would answer a lot of questions or concerns someone might have about the AT Pro....In return it would actually save the Garrett Company the price of a phone call plus the price of paying people to answer the phones...It would be a win..win situation for all concerned ....Just my opinion....JJ

My AT Pro has more hours in transit back to Garrett than it does hunting. I have a LEAKER unit. Only got to use it one and a half hours submerged before it went crazy and got water behind the faceplate. I assume there are ALOT of units being repaired for this and other problems because when I explained my problem to them, I recieved a very fast answer and they chuckled saying "YA WE KNOW ".

So when people come on this forum and say there a thousands being sold and only a very very small portion are having problems and I get an answer from the factory like that ....... I don't think so.

After reading Garretts website...... I bought my unit under the impression that it was a freshwater hunter submersible to 10'.

But that is NOT what I have as of now. And that is what frustrates me.

Hopefully the unit is fixed and I can move on. Even with these problems, Garrett service is still the best.

Well I'll try to post here since the moderators DELETED ALL THE POST AND REPLIES.. Garrett knew the short comings in the design of the rod.. Now they want to charge you to fix THEIR screw-ups... Falsing coils, leaking units and on and on!! They wouldn't even offer to pay the shipping back to them due to bad coils right out of the box!! They should make all previous machine prior to their UPDATE right at their cost !! Like buying a new car without a transmission and the manufactorer says you should pay for it!!! But few will see this post also because it to will probably be deleted.. Tell the truth and it will be deleted... Pay some money and any negative posted will be deleted...

OK another "I hate my AT Pro" thread. You know my jeep came out with one of those bad transmissions back in the 70's. They knew of the problem and I had to pay for the gas to drive it not only back for repairs, but the gas to drive it back home after the repairs. I also was told it could "out climb any other 4x4" and it didn't. I could have complained that Jeep was a ripoff and all, but I found it easier to just sell the jeep and buy something else I could complain about. You know, spread the love around.

I totally understand what your saying.

But a Jeep has kept it's resale value throughout the years, and the AT Pro's resale value has dropped. I have since decided to keep the AT Pro in my closet and buy a new water machine of a different brand that actually functions as it should in the water. I have let my frustration go and I feel better already.

I have come close to ordering the AT Pro on 2 different occassions, but still haven't pulled the trigger yet, ( for various resons we see here )....I'll still wait a bit longer and see how all this comes out in the wash ( so to speak )...

But one issue I would have is how people are saying they received bad units with no working coils straight from a dealer.................. Well, if that dealer has/had any credibility, iwould have demanded a new detector from him.. have him ( the dealer ) send me a ups return slip and have big brown pick it up at my house, and have the dealer ship me a new unit... thats what they are there to do.... give you service........... not wasting your own money and gas packaging it up and sending it back to garrett...... I wouldn't put up with that... Sorry for the venting.

looks like garrett has lost a lot of money on the at pro repairing all the defective units. they fix one problem and another one develops. I bet ol' charlie isn't a happy camper with the at pro right now.

Well until I stop reading these sort of stuff about the AT I will NOT be buying one that is for sure. I have owned Garrets in the past and loved them, but I have always questioned some of the things they do. Like the Gold Stinger. Why are they still producing that thing? Really is way past fitting the Gold Hunting VLF notch at all. the only thing it has going for it is Price point- but that is swept away by the aged design and lack of performance .
BUT if you told me I could only own 1 Land Machine VLF it would be - Garretts GTI 2500. Absolutely the most versatile machine ever.
