On the local radio today a finance guy
said gas will be $4.50-$5.00 a gal
by summer!!!! :rage:

If it does get that high for sure Il be
limited to VERY local areas ...a
VERY short trk ride or bicycle ..

Guess Il be Real close to home !!!

How would this affect you folks and
the spots you hunt ?... Ive got a few new
spots i may have to wait on ...

Just a question on another frozen ground day
BUT.....................

Rangers Lead The Way :usaflag::usaa:

I have enough ground to cover within 10 miles to keep gas expenses at a minimum. I will probably spend more on batteries. Also, with a new detector on the way I will have to basically go over everyplace I have already covered.

It will slow me down a bit on the beaches/ sand bars.......

Use the boat alot on the sand bars no other way to acess......Bummer......Marina gas prices will be higher.......
Feel it already to and from work. I might have to tone down some of my hobbies & enjoyment this summer another bummer

Like taking the detector out in the parking lot grass edges at the grocery store, just to be able to find enough change to buy something..For a lot of guys it could mean becomming a clad shooting monster, and forget about going deep and slow..hey Rusty, I put a 15hp 4 stroke on my 20' open boat and run all day on three gallons of gas..top end is 15mph, but I usually cruise about 10.
small cars, mopeds and bicycles gentlemen...McDave is sitting in an area where he should be posting a hugh cache find sooner or later...I'll be hunting my way across the country when I'm on business, that huge gas price will really hurt.

It will be tough for me with my Dodge 4x4. I usually have to drive 60 miles one way to my honey spots. We are already talking about going and spending the night more often thus making it more worthwhile. But, then you have to buy groceries and such. Go figure.

Being as it's already been in the $4 range, I don't think it's going to make a huge effect.
It will just bite me in the rear that much harder...
For me as far as my own driving, it's my 900 mile round trips back and forth from
Houston to Eufaula, OK that eat most of the gas. It will also have a great effect on the
price of work, but that I just pass on to the customers. Just an example of the trickle
down effect of rising fuel prices..
But I can't pass on my own fuel costs.. But.. That's why I have a Corolla that gets 40+
mpg on the highway. Even with the $4 gas, it wasn't a trip breaker.. It's just a larger
ouch doing it. But if I had to drive one of my trucks back and forth, I wouldn't be going
near as often. They might get up to 16 or so mpg.. They have inline six bangers, but
weigh quite a bit.
With the Corolla, it takes about 22 gallons to do the 900 mile round trip. At $4 a gallon,
that is $88. If it jumps to $5 a gallon, that will bump the round trip to $110. The bite
stings harder, but the extra $22 is not likely to have much effect on whether I go or not..
I will still go, but more grumbling about the sting.. :ranting:

Now if I had to take one of my trucks, you are talking about 56 gallons to make the
round trip. At $4 a gallon, $224 bucks for the round trip.. That's enough to make me
wonder if I really want to go... :/ Ouch.. If it hit $5 a gallon, $280 bucks.. Ouuuuwww!
That would put a definite crimp on my traveling style..
So... that's why I have the small toy car.. Saves my butt on gas.. I get 43 at night when
I have to do 65 mph. "TX night limit" And it's not a hybrid.. Just a regular ole 4 banger..
Back when gas dove back to the $2.10-2.20 range, it only cost me about $48 to make
the 900 mile trip. But those days seem to be gone, so ouch... :stars:

Up here in :canadaflag:we pay $1.10 a litre times 4 = $ 4.40 that why I have a Ford Focus

Come to Australia you blokes; We have been paying between 1.36 and 1.60 cents per ltr (4.54 ltr per gall)for 10 years or more now. It has been as high as 2.40 per ltr in some outback towns and whenever there is a holiday period the price jacks up by almost 20 cents per ltr. And as far as I know we do not import oil from the Middle East.

I live in sunny Florida on the Gulf Coast which is a big plus not having to deal with snow and ice. But we have our issues here right now, beside the hike in gas prices, last year they decided that too many people seemed to be enjoying the beaches in the evening so......
they extended the pay to park from 5 pm to 8 pm. (prime hunting time that used to be free). If you don't get to the meter in time the ticket will cost you
$30.00 so now I pack a watch into my waterproof bag. Now my hobby has gone over my budget. Then, most beaches close at darkness now that used to
be all nighters. THEN....they "renourished" some of my favorite beaches. You now have to walk approx. a football field length MORE to get to the water, plus the sand they dredged and covered up any goodies that might have been there is chock full of "shrapnel"......great
chunks of aluminum can shards. Oh well, it's good excercise and great fun. :clapping:

It will curtail my far away hunts and I'll have to stick closer to home. I can drive 25 miles and still be in town. Some of my favorite spots are across town - a 40 mile plus round trip. No way I could find enough to cover the cost of gas.

My son married a Scottish Lass in 2005. When we were over there for the wedding, gas was about $8.00 a gallon. The price gouging the oil companies do to us
bugs the heck out of me and I gripe a lot, but paying more for gas just means you have to smoke less or eat out less or cut back on whatever. I know
it's harder on us retired guys, but how else are you going to have so much fun and get some exercise too? Skip

I hear the fuel demands of India and China have really shot up since we've outsourced all of our manufacturing there.

Now we have other countries competing with us for the oil supply like never before and the middle men in the oil industry are going to make a fortune in trading it.

Oh, and gas at $5.00 a gallon?

It's a done deal. They're just yapping about on the news to get us ready.
