Thinking of performance upgrades. Whatta ya'll thank? I hunt out in the mine though, so I need control. Anybody running a larger than 10" and how do ya like it? Can you control it? Do ya find anything with it bettern stock? Give it up on the counsel pirates, you have my undivided attention. GH

Running an Excaliber 1000 with stock and Wot coils. Like the Wot but it catches sand cause I scrub the dirt with all my coils. The Wot is a TAD deeper than the stock coil. Average gold wedding ring maybe one inch to two inches deeper but you cover 49 % more sand with each swing. Big gold rings two to five inches deeper than stock. You have to be carefull and test each salt beach with a small wedding band for depth, some times the stock coil is better, and sometimes the Wot coil will "go negative" on you, you will get a good signal down to 6 inches and the signal will switch to an iron null signal so you will miss all gold deeper than 6 inches!!! I have not had the factory coil go negative on me THAT I KNOW OF!!!! Weird but true.Wot is a great coil in fresh water too.

I had the WOT coil on a Sovereign GT...great coil and great detector BUT in my local conditions the WOT could NOT go any deeper than my stock coil. That didn't disappoint me at all as I was only after extra ground coverage and from the homework I did on the WOT most users agreed that the depth advantage was nil or at best 10%.

Regards,
Tony.

I have Tornado 10", BBS 8", and S-12 coils.
Use the S-12 almost exclusively, but it has drawbacks.

Comparing S-12 to Tornado 10":
S-12 Pros:
o much better coverage
o lighter
S-12 Cons:
o not as deep
o more sensitive to highly mineralized areas
o target separation suffers due to larger size
o Ohm meter shows S-12 has twice resistance of Tornado coil

I use the S-12, except on beaches that have alot of mineralization
and it starts falsing alot. Then I break out the Tornado and all is well. I use a Excalibur.

Gulf Hunter: I have a Sovereign Gt with a 10" Tornado coil. I also use a WOT. I can actually turn my sensitity up more with the 10" coil without getting the falsing, and get equal to or more depth then with the WOT, but if I want the coverage I use the WOT. When the black sand is presnt it will false a lot more with the Wot.
