The V3 with the concentric coil will work great in ground of mid to low minerals. If your using the DD you will lose performance. Thanks

Detectorguru, using the ground probe on the V3,what would you consider the crossing point from mid to high ground mineralization?

BHNugget, good question. I'm here in Utah and have always considered the soil to be light to medium at worst. However I was out Friday using a super 12(light trash area) thinking I was getting more depth than the DD. I dug a target(clad dime) and decided to keep digging the hole and place the dime deeper. I pushed it to about seven or eight inches. I filled the whole again and made sure to compact the soil. I'm running High Pro with sensitivity @ 15 | 80 | 60 recovery at 120 filter set to 5hz high. I could detect the dime but thought I would run the DD for kicks to see how much performance I was missing. I went back to the DD and ran it over the same target with all the same settings(I just switched out the coils). To my surprise the DD was seeing the dime clearer o_O?? I figured the DD had a tighter flux pattern so it was seeing the dime better so I tried the same test with a clad quarter -- same outcome. Could it be the V needs adjustments to meet the dynamics of the supper 12 or have I pegged the soil wrong?

Did you try playing with the recovery or the filters. There might have been a bit of change with slower (Recovery) and you were using the fast 5hz. Yazoo

Sounds like the V is working fine. Sounds like you tested and found the best coil for you soil. People are looking for problems that aren't there. You did what more people should be doing testing and just trying things themselves. If the DD works better use it. It looks like you are getting good depth. Rob

Yazoo, I left the filter the same 5hz high-- never changed it during this test but I did run the recovery from 80 up to 120 to get more depth out of the super 12. I was seeing the dime with the super 12 but was trying to fine tune the setting for better discrimination / recognition of the target. I did change my swing to get an idea of what worked best and then applied the same swing to the DD. It was one of those double take moments because the DD spiked up into the dime range most of the time but the super 12 only showed iron for the most part.

Next time I'll change the filter and leave the recovery alone to see if there is better identification.

Thanks Rob and Yazoo for the replies!
