"Let me introduce you to my little sifter."

Now this is a sifter, modified to create some depth in the top wall so I will not tear the fragile hardware cloth with my scoop. If I do then its aluminum punched sheet or stainless. This is the Andy Sabisch design. Light, buoyant and ready.

Nice job, I was just reading one of Andy's books and seen that plan. I think I will give it a try. Do you find using a sifter as a big benefit over just swishing your scoop to clear it?

Steve

Ya did a great job there.
The only thing I dont like about using one of those in a lake swimming hole is that it is a kid magnet.
They will flock around you to see what you find.
Some will even try to grab and run.

Do they make an underwater tazer? LOL ... just kidding.

Steve I won't go water hunting without my sifter. it significantly increases the amount of time spent looking for targets in the bottom instead of the bottom on your scoop. It also helps with those tiny pesky targets that want to fall thru most scoops. My sifter doesn't have any metal in it so I use a vibra probe to help find the small targets in the bottom matrix (that doesn't sift) like sinkers that are algae covered and look exactly like a small pebble. I doubt that you ever find them in your scoop. It also floats my scoop when not in use. I hook it to my scoop and put it on my shoulder for transport to and from the water (hands free). I added a small anchor like cupajo did and it really helps with controlling the sifter in wind, waves & current. It also leaves a drag mark so you can tell where you have been. Using a sifters only draw back as far as I can tell is its worthless for hunting anything but the water. ie wetsand! So if you wander between the 2 you won't want to bring your sifter.
Also I have used my sifter in waves that no sane person would ever hunt in and it did way better than I did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure you'll hear several more opinions, this is mine. Hope it helps.

Steve

Lightweight, metal free, able to handle a huge scoop loaded with lots of sand and maybe large stones, small holes to catch those .22 caliber bullets and tiny odds and ends that can drive you crazy until you use the Vibra-probe on them.

Who would be foolish enough to want to use such a thing???

Me that's who!!!

That also looks like a pretty neat design, is that available commercial or did you put it together?

Steve

Hi Steve,

Thanks for asking!!

Both kaptainkosmic and I have posted our creations in the posts of the recent past.

Check em out Friend,

CJ

I guess I need to see the plans somewhere. Are they posted anywhere or do I have to get a book? If I hunt much more while wading I need to cut down on the time looking in the heavy scoop at eye level trying to see if there is a target. Thanks...Jim
