I haven't seen much confusion so far but if there is then I'll explain again. The bobbing method described in my original post is for setting your sensitivity as a starting point for the particular area your hunting. It has nothing to do with ground balancing which is done in the all metal mode. I did not come up with this method. I had already read that some Sovereign users might be using this method with good results so I tried it with my Sovereign and it has worked well. It's been used for years with other detector brands to set your sensitivity when hunting in bad ground and/or mineralized black sand beaches for best performance when using single frequency detectors. Setting your sensitivity for best performance in bad ground is nothing new and is critical for us that have bad ground to get any depth. I envy you guys that have good ground and the depth you get. It's nothing more than just a quick way to set your sensitivity for maximum depth while still maintaining a steady threshold and stability regardless of the ground conditions.

This is right from the manual it may help, for people with questions

When in the All Metal mode, place the switch into Track and raise and lower the coil between

The only people that are confused are the ones that didn't read the original post in the first place so I'll say it again. This is not about ground balancing or setting your sensitivity in all metal mode . The all metal mode and discrimination are not the same. This is about setting your sensitivity in discrimination mode when hunting in discrimination mode.
