I have been detecting long enough to know a couple of simple rules, but lately I have been getting a bit lax in my hunting style. Always check your hole before covering it up. Always check your target from a couple of angles. Always dig a target where you get different tones close together. Today, I found a deep pocket drop in an older park that I have been hunting for several years. I kept getting a weak pulltab signal and real close by, I got a real weak high tone that I knew was deep as I run my volume at 4 and 1/2 on my 6a. If I swept too fast, the signal would blend together and come out as a midtone, pulltab reading. If I just crept the coil, I could get two different signals. I almost always dig these signals and many times they turn out to be real deep pulltabs or beaver tails. I was going to pass this particular target up and I actually went several feet past it, but I turned around and decided to dig it. I had a hard time isolating the signal in pinpoint because obviously there were two targets close togehter. First thing I found was a beaver tail from six inches. I had a feeling that there was something good close by so I repinpointed and the needle pegged at 8 inches and I had almost no audio. I knew there was something deep and many times this is rusty iron with the cz, but it the sound held tight. At 8 inches I couldn't get a signal with my pinpointer and I was beginnig to think rusty iron. I dug 2 more inches and found a wheat penny. I rescanned the hole and got another good signal and I knew it was another coin. Out pops a 1905 barber dime. I rescanned the hole and had another hit. This is what makes this hobby so exciting, you have found two older coins and there are more coming. Coin number 3 was an IH. I rescanned the hole and there was another coin signal. Out pops another IH. I rescanned again and there was still a signal, but a couple of inches to the right. Another barber dime, 1900. Four of these coins came from 10 to 11 inches and the 6a was right on them. I have owned many newer more expensive detectors and I am not saying that these detectors could not have hit on these coins, but the 6a had no problem finding them. I have said it many times and I will say it again, the CZ's are still as good as any detector made. I have found 4 Barber dimes and one Barber quarter the last 4 times out. For any Cz users, swing real slow and overlap your swings and you will be rewarded. R.L>
