Lesson learned

Hi all. Got out yesterday to help a friend find some survey markers. 1/2" rebar in the ground vertically sticking up about an inch - been there for years and covered with leaves, pine needles, branches etc. Used my SSumax that I replaced the all metal pinpoint button with an on/off toggle. Worked out that the switch was a plus. The SSumax has enough iron discrimination built in even at the O setting that the rods wouldn't give a decent signal, or at best, a snap or pop, not solid. With the switch in all metal the signal would nearly blast my headphones off.
I was able to detect in all metal, switching to disc. when I'd get a hit. If the signal was still strong in the disc. setting, I knew it was likely trash rather than a marker. Worked out great and we found them all. Just another detector tip worth keeping in mind.
