lesson learned!!!

Well today I re-learned a lesson :
Went to an old park that was having some construction. I detected about 10 minutes and found a wheat. For the 10 minutes I was in site of the construction workers and even made eye contact with them but nothing was said. Then I had no choice but to move closer to the workers as I had already searched the other areas. When I got close enough to say hi that

here is what I think! You asked and they would have been in trouble had they given you permission, which wasn't probably theirs to give, and you would have gotten hurt in some way! So that's why they said that, but maybe if you had waited for them to say something to you, you might have been alright, because they may have thought you had permission from a higher up! BUT, asking them put the responsibility on them! If you had stayed out of their area until they left, then you probably could have detected in the area of construction....unless they put up tapes, markers and keep out signs! Or if you had of asked them before you started, you may or may not have been able to detect around or near them...a chance you would have to take!

Happy Hunting & God Bless!

I guess talking to people like that just gives them the opportunity to say, "No" when they wouldn't have had the guts to say something first...

you are learning the ways of the world :) Pretty soon you will learn how to wear "landowner green" clothing ! Steve in so az

What was tore up?

land mine detection team and a warning label on the hat. Then they will go to lunch - even if it isn't lunch time to let you dig.
:)

Or a hat with gas company logo and words 'gas leak detection team member' - NO SMOKING!!!!

...so you could check the ground underneath!

I called our county commissioner to get permission to hunt an old school that was closed. He asked me if I lived in Knox county. When I told him I did he said as a tax payer county property belonged to me and I had the right to search the old school, all county parks and all open schools with permission of the principle. He politely asked me to fill my holes and wished me luck.

While hunting the old school the caretaker came out to run me off the property and he wasn't very nice about it and because of his attitude it made me a little mad. I told him I was a taxpayer and I owned the land and the building. Additionally, I told him that he was a county employee and that I paid his salary! Well, he got really mad and said he would call someone to escort me off the property. I said that was fine, now I was getting pretty hacked, but first I would recommend that you call the county commissioner because he personally gave me permission to hunt here. I gave him the phone number and offered to let him use my cell phone.

You should have seen his jaw drop! He said, " You talked to the commissioner? That's good enough for me." His attitude changed and then he asked if I wouldn't hunt the front yard of the school because he had spent several hours re-seeding the lawn and of course I agreed I wouldn't hunt that part of the lawn. Right now anyway!

I went back several times after that and he never said another word to me.

...was right, they have to tell you no for your own safety, especially if there is heavy equipment being used. But, I would have asked too and I think you did the right thing. When a utility company was fixing a sewer pipe on our street I asked if I could grab my detector and look through the pile of dirt they excavated and they let me. They just asked me to stay off the pile so I wouldn't slide into the hole.

where the Caretaker was coming from as he didn't want all his work messed up and have to redo it, which was his job anyway. Thank God, you got permission from the County Commissioner first or he would have looked upon you with distaste!

Here's a story about my dad, when he had a job taking care of a rich person's tennis courts, lawn and such! He had just cleaned everything and then along came the rich man's kids and friends and messed up the place again. Dad got mad about it, but you know that was his job to clean up after them, as that is what he was hired for! But he looked at it as more work for him to do....just like the Caretaker!

God Bless & Happy Hunting!
