Anyone got one?

I was debating getting the Piranha or the Sampson 31 serrated, and since the Sampson was out of stock @ newengland detectors, I went ahead and ordered a Piranha.

It should ship out today,

Whats your thoughts on it?

I bought 2 a couple of weeks ago for my son and I and it is a great tool for this hard red clay we have here in TN. You should be very pleased. HH :minelab:

I got the Piranha in the mail last week, I've took it out hunting 3 time so far, and I love it. It's the perfect size and I don't have to bend over to dig a hole.

I did notice that about 1/2 inch from the blade tip, I have a small bend/dent in the blade about the size of a nickle. I don't know if it was made that way or if I did it, but I haven't done any prying other than normal, so I assume it was made that way.

The shovel is welded extremely well, and has blue paint with primer underneath. I peeled the warning sticker off, and sprayed a little WD40 on a rag to get the sticker residue off, but it started taking the paint off and showing the purple primer below the paint.

I honestly don't care if the paint comes off, because its a shovel and will get dirty , Overall, it's a really really nice shovel and cuts VERY well, and is exactly the right height.

The bend/dent in the blade is a minor annoyance, its one of those things that doesn't effect the function but since I "know its there" it bothers me a little bit. I didn't fully inspect the shovel before use, so I don't know if it was made that way or if I did it, although I think it would be hard to bend/dent in that particular spot without the tip its self bending.

I just ordered a sampson serrated to compare to the piranha, I should have it by the end of the week.

I'll post comparison photos once it arrives, along with a couple reviews.

Will be interested in hearing about your direct comparison of the Piranha vs. Sampson. I too have a Lesche Sampson (serrated) on the way but it won't be here until next week. Got a good deal from Andrew at NEMD and it included free shipping. Must admit that I decided on the Sampson primarily due to the price difference and the many favorable posts on the Sampson...but I've got to say the Piranha does look 'gnarly'.

I plan to make one modification to the Sampson when it arrives. I'll immediately paint the top 3 or 4 inches of the T-handle bright red. I detect mostly in the trees and I want to be able to find it if I accidentally leave it behind.

That looks like one serious 'bad boy' tool. Was it designed for multi-use in a war zone or something? I have a Predator Tool digger - and like it a lot - it's very strong, easy to use in some hard soils too. I'm thinking of a larger tool to use on the family land, which is forest for the most part, and rocky at that; the Piranha might be just the tool for me. If nothing else, it will scare the H**L out of trespassers when I see them. :surprised: "uh, we didn't know we were on private propterty" 'yeah, right, I never heard that one before; I believe you, but I'm not so sure my friend here does'
