Lemonade

I dont Know how many of you read the other forums but I try to keep up and I like to see what everyone else is finding. So I come across a post, a which detector should I get post, we've all seen them, well the person was told to steer clear of the Quattro it was Minelabs "lemon". Needless to say a very annoying post I'm sure you'll agree. And thats not the first one I've seen. Oh well all I have to say is after these three silvers my count for the year so far is 35 silver coins and 18 Indian heads + a bunch of other goodies. I'd say thats squeezing a lot of lemonade out of my lemon

didn't give the Quattro a chance. Like with any machine, it takes time to learn it. It is one of the if not the deepest detectors that I have ever used.

found out that i still have a lot to learn but i did find a lot of civil war stuff so no lemonade here

Well, my lemon of a detector won me an 1873 penny at 8 inches down in iron infested ground today. I challenge anyone who's ribbed the Quattro, to come over here with their detector and give it a go. I reckon after 15 minutes, they'll give up! Nothing worse than unexperienced or uninformed persons who have an opinion on something they've never tried.
HH and good on you Butch for finding those coins!

machine you have to "piddle" with for a couple of hours, then you start finding coins. I have, after putting in 25 hours+ have started locating old pennies, which are now getting older and older......and deeper. It is one of the best/deepest detectors I have ever owned, if not the best.

You have been doing well. The one thing that I still struggle a bit with the Quattro is with target separation. If there is a pull tab next to a "good" target or a bunch of iorn I have a hard time picking up the good target. Is the site(s) you have found most of your silver at trashy? I take it you have been using the stock coil. I do have the 7.5 inch DD coil and find it to be much better in trashy/iorn areas. But generally I try to use the stock coil to maximize depth.

The last couple sites I've been have'nt been to bad as far as junk goes, probabally about average. But I tell you what my best coins so far this year have been coming out of very trashy sites that have been pounded over the years by myself (with other machines) and countles other people. I kind of like the trashy sites better because it forces me to really slow down and listen, I find myself going a little faster than I usually hunt in very wide open non trashy sites. And in my opinion I dont feel I'm covering the area as good as I could be. I dont have a small coil yet but I do want to try one. Most of the coins I have been finding have been in the 8-11 inch range and I'm not sure a smaller coil would see them. I do know what you mean about the separation though, I try to hit a suspect target from all angles and than make the determination weather to dig or not. But I find 95% of the time iffy targets are just that, junk. Usually when I lock on a good target it dosent seem to matter whats around it, it just wont let go. One thing that I am sure of is the slower I go the more I find.

but better target seperation as well as pinpointing also a tad lighter so I'm willing to forego the extra depth for the other features, but that's just my opinion others may differ.

I also read somewhere on a forum that someone referred to the Quattro as Minelab's lemon. I guess there are some detectorists that want it now and don't want to give a product like the Quattro a chance. It looks like everyone here on this forum is very happy with their Quattro and have much faith in the instrument. It is good to see this. Ok God Bless all and enjoy those Quattro's !
