I hit 3 spots hard after the long weekend and barely found a couple of coins. Determined to find something, I traveled two and a half hours (one way) this morning to hit some beaches hit by some large surf. When I got there all the beaches were closed. Not due to dangerous surf, but the water was shut off due to the pipes being destroyed, so no admittance. Damn!
So I headed up to the only open beach which is real small. As I pulled up I see two guys who where loading their gear into their trucks. I talked to one of them. He said the shore break made it rough getting targets but there may be something. Having gone so far I decided to try. Sure enough the water hunting was difficult and no real targets. I hit the beach out of desperation. To my surprise, I started picking up targets. Just coins, but these should have been found. 2 dimes, 2 pennies, and one quarter. Then I hit the water as the tide had receded. One good target, and after 10 minutes I managed to pull up the quarter. Okay, not so good, but I could tell it was worth pulling it up to see what it was.
Back on the beach a guy tells me that the other 2 guys were all over the beach. Were talking real small here. Maybe 150 feet long or so. All of the coins in the sand had been there quite a while. So I am wondering if they just missed them or their equipment couldn't pick them up? I have the feeling, especially due to where I found them, that these guys went right over them.
So, next time I get somewhere and I see it's been hunted, unless I've got somewhere better to hunt, I'll gear up and see what leftovers are out there. Maybe guys are passing over jewelry too? Then again, it's been a while since I've seen any gold. A little silver lately, but no gold.
