LED s ?

If i connect more than one LED in parallel will the brightness on each LED be diminished. I am putting a tesoro in a water proof box and am replacing the audio signal with LEDs

This is my second water proofed Tesoro. I have a Vaquero in a water proof box . I am now water proofing a Compadre. maybee pics later if I can figure out how to post em.

Since You'll have to use a resistor anyway, to drop the voltage for the voltage? Why not series the diodes.? Depending on the circuit, might save some current.

Silversmith I was planning to use a 100 ohm resistor with one 5mm 3 v. LED. how many Leds would I need to eleminate the resistor? Thanx

Where do you use the water proof Vaquero , in fresh water or salt ? How did you water proof it ? I'm in the process of water proofing a Mine lab GT .

Usually the recommended voltage and current are listed on the back of the LED package. You should be able to figure out how many to use in series at a given voltage. I thought you wanted to use them parallel and this was an alternative.

Dertnc I use the Vaq in fresh water, I use a PI in salt water most of the time, I bought a water proof box at Wal mart, took the innards out out of the V and just put them in the box. I silicon ed the coil and head set wires where they came Thur the box. I just set the GB, sens and disc close it up. It has never leaked. .It is hip mounted and I use it for wading. I use the 5x10 coil with a long (6ft) cord on it. The one I am working on now is for diving.

you will lose .6 volts for each LED installed in series, but when one LED bites the big one they all go out at once, parallel install is a better idea ,the amp draw from an led is in milla amps almost no strain on a circuit..If you have a breadboard it would be wise to experiment there first rather than on your detector, if you experimental circuit has problems no biggie, but if it has problems inside the detector it can cause a catastrophic failer in the circuit suppling the power!!

Uh-uh, diodes usually don't open up like light bulbs on a Christmas Tree. They usually short when they get too hot. Which would make the others brighter unless they avalanched. So, when you design the series diode resistor string, add a little more resistence. They will be a little dimmer but that would give you a safety factor if one shorts (unlikely, if you use enough resistance initially.) Good luck, keep us posted.
