Learning

Here's what I learned so far:

- TID very accurate on foil
- Unit is very well balanced and swings nicely
- It's not as easy to achieve good depth out of the box as it is with the Etrac - I traded the etrac for this machine

To fully understand and maximize perrformance a coin must be buried and settings tweaked. I could not detect the quarter at 10" in straight coin mode. I played with the rx, am, and disc gains but to no avail. After playing around in different programs, the deep silver mode using single freq hit it hard. Hard enough where Icould raise the coil a couple of inches and still get a repeatable signal. This is exciting. I'll run out to some spots this evening to see if Ican find some old, deep coins.

Congratulations on ur v. Give it time and learn its languages and u will never swi.g anything but a whites. The v is the best whites has ever made and if thease r the future of whites flagships then its only going to get better and better......jeremi

Arnie you have taken the first step in the right direction which is figuring out what works for you and not just copying programs that work for us.

I am sorry to say that the science experiment has ended. After using the Etrac and the V3i, I am going back to the Etrac.

The Whites is a very well made machine and I like a lot of things about it. The drawack for me was I couldn't get it to perform as well as the Etrac in my part of the world. Perhaps I didn't give it enough time, that is a fair observation as I only had it for a month. However, I could never achieve the depth I desired, which, I achieved in a the same amount of time using the Etrac. For me the Etrac is like a comfy pair of shoes. I gave it an honest effort.

Thank you for your support.

You have to use what makes you happy. Yes you have tweak the settings. you said, 10" hard and then raised the coil a couple of inches doesn't sound too bad. I would think that mixed mode would have been even deeper.

Good luck, that's why we have so many detectors to choose from. You can get an E cheap now.

Rob i think you could agree with me that in the case of the v it is not a detector that u can see its real capability in a month. And although it has professional preset programs it is not at turn on and go detector in the sense of being a rank beginner. This is a machine designed for and marketed to the pro detectorist. In a day or two you can see the full potential of a etrack. U r seeing all it is and is going to be capable of. The v out of the box is not in most cases as deep as etrack. That said if an experienced detectorist put the time and knoledge of each function to use in most any condotions it will out perform etrack every time. Not to mention v gives the user a world of information not given by any other detector on the market! Now everyone uses this comparison with coins most of the time. Lets now compair out of the box gold capability. V slams etrack and i ten to one love gold over coins. Also in relic comparison out of the box v again spanks etrack in any soil condition. The raw hoesepower and versatility of the v is simply Unmatached in the industry. I wouldnt take three etracks for my v. Thats just my opinion. Sorry earney didnt give himself more time too learn what the v is capable of.......jeremi in alabama

Thought you guys would like to know I can't get my Etrac to hit that 10" quarter in my test garden. :surrender:

And its a fair statement that a month is not long enough to really learn a machine.

My CZ21 hits the ten inch qrtr easily though....... Go figure.

Between the v and the e, i'm just more comfy with the e at the moment.

Use what works best for you, but if you have questions on the V series, we will be here to help you.

I find that both detectors have very similar abilities but prefer the vdi numbers of the Whites machine. Not to mention pinpointing in 3 frequency and actually being able to dig a manageable sized hole from the superior pinpointing abilities.

Like burlbark says with the pinpointing with the V my holes are no more than 5"round spot on every time.

Alright, I'm back!

I ordered a brand new V3i today and am going to stick with it longer than a month. After going back to my Etrac for the last year, I've made some great finds but I'm bored and have maximized it's capabilities in my hunting spots. I'm interested to see what the V3i can find and honestly, I'm hopeful it will be able to do as well as the Etrac. The Etrac is a great machine and has given me my first gold coin and many fine relics. I'm a 99% relic hunter.

I've spent a lot of time watching V3i videos over the last year and feel like I'm better prepared this time to give it a more thorough workout. So, I look forward to going through the process and learning the language of the Whites. I'm partial to Mom & Pop American made products and I'm rooting for it. I appreciated everyone's input a year ago and I look forward to getting back in the saddle for another ride. This time it will be a marathon instead of a sprint. Stay tuned.

Nothing as changed, use what works best for you. Good luck.
