Learning the Sunray X-1 Probe

I just got the X-1 probe a couple weeks ago, today was only the second time out with it and I know there must be a lot of good benefits I have yet to learn but to tell the truth, I reach for my Garrett Pro Pointer first after opening a hole - I am just that comfortable with it.

So, I am interested in know how other owners or the X-1 Probe use it. After switching to the probe, do you leave your detector in the detect mode or do you put it in the pinpoint mode? In your experience, how deep does your X-1 actually go? Regardless of the mode you leave it in when you begin to search in the hole, tell me what you do and why?

I always leave it in the same mode after switching. I know I get around 4" on coin sized targets and the depth meter still works with the X1 probe (as you get closer the depth gauge will decrease).

Also, when investigating some "is it a nail or is it a good target" signals it is a huge help... As soon as you crack open the hole and use the X1 it will null out on iron or scream out on coins... Letting you decide weather to continue pursuing the target or not.

I use the Sunray on an MXT. Usually I just switch it to the probe and go. However, if I hold the pinpointing trigger back it will narrow the detection field on the probe similar to what it does with the coil and also gives a little more depth. Sometimes that's a useful function.
