Learning the Prizm 6T

Hello everyone, I am new to MD, and would appreciate any info on using the Prizm 6T. I know it's a good machine, but I am still trying to decipher when to dig and when not to. I find a lot of aluminum cans even though I I set the discrination to block tabs. I haven't found too many using this machine. I have watched youtube, but still would appreciate hearing from someone using this machine.
Thanks! :surrender:

I always (along with many others) tell new people to the hobby one important thing. Listen for a good tone. Ignore what the meter says until you have that good solid tone. Set your discrimination to block out iron & don't look at the meter again until you have good tone. If the can has been hit by a mower (slaw) any detector will be fooled. Part of the dark side of things.

Thanks Goodmore, Do you have any recommendations for a pinpointer? I was looking at the Vibra 580, which sounded great but have read several negative reviews.

With any detector an aluminum car will pinpoint larger than a coin. Also raise your coil 10 inches above the ground then sweep your suspected can. If you still get a beep then it's probably a can or other large target. I would suggest the Garrett Propointer for your pinpointer. I'm not scared to say it.

Thanks Khouse, and thanks for the tip on the pin pointer, which I've been trying to decide on. I really thought the Vibra 580 was the one but after reading several neg comments I'm not so sure.

All you have to do is read the reviews on the pinpointer to see it's a good one. Or jump to the other forum right here on this site.

I used 2 different kinds of Garrets within 3 years. This past summer I won a Prizm 6T on a raffle and I haven't look back at Garrett again. This 6T is incredible. Now I find targets that I used to missed with the previous detector. The pinpointer is very accurate. Remember, if you discriminate against tabs, you may be missing a gold ring or something made out of gold, since is on the same scale. If you hit a can, it will show OL (OverLoad) on your screen and an ugly sound. The machine is trying to tell you not to bother with it. I love it.
Have fun,
Tosk

Thanks for the input Tosk. I got a similiar comment from groundshaker. I only discriminated against iron, and I have actually started finding coins. I love my 6T because it isn't complicated and it's lightweight. Looking forward to someday getting the DD coinshooter. :bouncy:
