Learning my new coil, interesting find!

So as I had stated in an earlier post, I have purchased the 13" DD "Ultimate" coil from that other place, its freaking huge by the way, I should have sized it to see how big it really is, so with that said I am going out more often just so I can learn this coil a little better, it seams as if the pin point on it is a tad off, and is usually about 1-2 inches to the 12 position (clock as reference) and not dead center of the coil, which at this time makes me dig bigger holes. I have been finding alot of clad with it, and it seems to be able to pick up on "good targets" better in trashey areas, just messing around in my back yard the other day I found a military dog tag, remember I live just outside of Fort Riley, but this one is older, it has the tooth notch and the fella had a service number not SSN like they use now, The Army stopped using service numbers in July 1969. He did also have his SSN on the tag too which I have blacked out

Neat find .Which machine do you use?

I use a Delta 4000 with 13"DD coil

if you're going to try to locate him one thing you could do is check the local library for old city directories to see if he lived in the same house you do. i was drafted in nov. 1969 and i thought i had a service number but thats been too long to really remember. good luck.

Tango, I'm having a very hard time on pin pointing the ultimate coil myself. When you say 1 or 2 inches from the 12 o'clock position, are you saying 1 or 2 inches from the top at 12 o'clock (towards the center or the pole), or are you meaning 1 or 2 inches left or right of the top? Towards the 10 o'clock area / 2 o'clock area?

Again, I'm having major issues on pinpointing the 13 inch ultimate and am digging holes WAY TOO LARGE.

Any help would be awesome!

Thank you,
Bubba

See the picture I have uploaded, was just wondering if it was just me, or may be a faulty coil? also I noticed I really have to play with the sensitivity to get a reliable reading, 10 seems to be the magic number, but sometimes if I get too much chatter I will drop it down to 8. Hope this helps

Actually this is great information. I can't wait to try it out next! I bet you are right. This is probably how it is designed.

Thank you tango,
Bubba
