Several years ago, I went through the motions with an Explorer II and later, an Explorer SE. Unfortunately, due to some physical limitations, I found the ergonomics more than this old crippled body could handle. So, for the past 4 years, I've been enjoying the X-Terras. For the record, I have no plans to stop swinging the X-Terras! But, I kept reading all the great posts about the excellent target separation + extreme depth, and figured I had to try one myself! Afterall, I couldn't let brother Bill have all the fun! Having used my X-70 and 705 in the all metal mode with multiple tones most of the time, I have found the language of the Etrac to be easier to understand than the Explorer seemed to be a few years back. So from my perspective, understanding the Etrac is more about sweep speed control and applying the correct functionality than it is listening to what it is telling me. Anyway, here is a pic of the finds I've made since receiving the Etrac this past weekend. Nothing outstanding. But several coins, not an overabundance of trash, and one sweet set of Sterling Silver USAF Gunner Wings, circa WWII. HH Randy

Good start Randy. I found some of those wings a couple of years ago. They are cool. Did you think the Etracs ergonomics were better than the Explorers?

Kurt

They are a lot different from the XS and Explorer units in my opinion.. And if I may say this without starting a war, much better..or at least for me.

I still find the stock coil a bit "problematic" after a few hours. But I've got a 6-inch Excelerator and a 6X8 butterfly coil coming in Friday. Hopefully they lighten the load and still go as deep as I need to go at the places I intend to use the Etrac. For now, I've been switching over to my left hand every 30 minutes or so and it helps a lot. One added benefit is that I sweep slower left handed, which is a good thing. HH Randy

They are a different animal. But still enough similarities that continue the FBS tradition. Ergonomics aside, I also find the Etrac to be more to my liking than the Explorers. But again, after using the multiple tone, all metal settings on the X-Terras for the past few years, it just seems to make more sense now! HH Randy

Digger..you try a Swingy Thingy? I started using one the day I got my SE and have switched to use on all the detectors I swing...even the Ace 250. It's mostly on the E-Trac. I will probably use it for evey coil except the 6X8 SEF. But, I wouldn't set out all day to swing any coil without the ST. It really shows it value when you start using the 12X15 SEF. I don't know why or I'd offer up the secret, but I have never experienced the complaints all have made about it being cumbersome or getting in your way. If I used a shove to dig and had to do it in a standing position I could see it might be a hassle. I dig everything on my knees, very carefully. After I leave and someone knows a detector hobbyist has hunted their, I wasn't careful enough with my target recovery. Jim

Randy I had a slight problem with the forearm cradle on my E Trac making it kind of awkward to hold, problematic like you said. My forearm would not cradle in it all the way to the shaft IOW. This morning I moved the cradle a little more towards the coil down the shaft going against conventional wisdom of having the cradle just below the elbow. My forearm is not huge just it is not anorexic by any means either. About a 1.5 inch move forward made my forearm sit in the cradle laying on the shaft and it was a dream after that. Glad you are liking the ET. I popped a dime at 10 inches and a penny a little more than that this morning. The ground is HARD and dry. I had to really work with the land shark to get that deep:beers:Even bending the shaft on it slightly while driving it in the ground with my body weight on the shark. We need a tropical storm!!!!!!!
