Learned Something Yesterday:cry::clapping:

I hit the park that I have been waiting to open. Dug a bottle cap and was in the process of digging a solid coin signal when the park ranger showed up. He was really nice and we had a nice conversation, but apparently it is illegal to MD in all county run parks except one. That one is not in my area, and not as convenient for me.
So I packed up and headed for a tot lot that was near the park in my parent's old neighborhood. I got your obligatory aluminum/pull tabs, etc., some pennies, and my largest coin to date. A nickel!:clapping:
But the best thing I got was some info from a guy who lived across the street from the tot lot. He does a little MDing and suggested a few areas close to me where I could go. Even told me about some finds by someone else in the lot I was in, but in a different section. I was about out of time when he showed up so couldn't check it out at that time. But I'll be going back at some point. :detecting:
I also learned that the mosquitos waste NO time when the warm temps arrive! Need to get some sort of repellent. I only have so much blood!

Had a chance to hit one of the sites this morning that guy told me about yesterday. Didn't get as early a start as I should have, but was able to spend a couple hours there. Mainly did the parking area and was working my way up around the old lighthouse when I got a call to go to work.
My very first hit was a dime! My new top denomination.:biggrin: Mostly got memorials, but ended up with a total of 5 dimes. No silver, but I haven't been doing this very long yet. At least I am seeing steady improvement in skill and value of finds.:happy:

Thanks

Thanks for giving all a heads up on the rules there..

Did you find out if it's actually written down somewhere, as he says? Ie.: an actual rule? The reason I ask is, .... there has been cases of people being told "you can't do that here" or "that's illegal" and so forth. And the poor dejected md'r just takes it as fact, that .... "it must be a rule". And it turns out, that sometimes, there's nothing that specifically says "no detecting". It might be one persons interpretation of morphing some other rule (ie.: don't disturb the earthworms, etc...).

Not saying to argue with the guy, but if I were you (and let's say you want to go back), then I'd research it myself, and see if there really is anything that says "no metal detectors in XYZ parks". You can check to see if the county has a website, and if so, perhaps their muni laws, codes, charter, and so forth are on there. Or go to county hall front desk, and ask where the public may view the laws, codes, rules, charter, and so forth. It's got to be available for public viewing somewhere.

But perhaps he already did cite chapter and verse a true rule. If so, disregard.

I haven't had time to do an investigation of the regs. yet. But based on our conversation, I have no reason to doubt him. When I get the chance I'll look further into it.
