Learned a lesson this week -

steve in so la

About 10 days ago a young man came to my door and said he had locked himself out of a house about 6 doors down. He was helping his uncle move - I didnt recognize him. He said he called the locksmith and he was short 7 dollars from hiring him to gain entry.

I immediately prayed to myself about it and felt the Lord said ok, give him the 7 bux. He said he would pay me back that eve.

Well he never showed and I was kinda upset about it. Then my wife ,in her wisdom, said that I had done just what the Lord wanted me to do. As to the paying, that was up to the man and the Lord, not me. That made sense. So when we do things for others - the lord will take over and complete it. Who knows, maybe the man will learn something from it after all.

we dont always get feedback on our deeds I guess :) Steve in so az

gave away 2 of the 3 quarters I had in my pocket so others could buy pop from the $1.25 vending machine. The 3rd quarter was a Canadian and doesn't work in those machines. I figured why not make these guys happy even if we had never met. Besides what could I buy with just 3 quarters. The guys of course said thanks and I never figure on getting the momey back (yet I do everytime I find money detecting). Interesting thing is after that and feeling good about it I realized I had a paper dollar bill in my wallet and with a quarter I could buy myself a pop too. So started to beat the drum of discontent because of what I could have done to please me and didn't.

I have to stop taking things so personally and let God rule. Even Jesus said to suffer not the little children to come to Him. feed them and give them drink for whoever does so for the children does it for Him. (My paraphrasing a bit here). Though I had felt good - knowing it was pleasing to God along came the enemy to seek and devour that feeling of goodness by sowing the seeds of discontent.

So I didn't get another pop (already had 2 of them earlier - like I needed another pop) but may God's purpose over those 2 little quarters be fulfilled - maybe it was - maybe it was to teach me a lesson. Thank you Father God for even giving me the coins to begin with. Thank you Jesus.

Thanks for the lesson you learned and the one I learned too Steve.

Where I volunteer I have come to realize that down there with the homeless it's all about them - and not about me. Been there 3 years now and it's been great not doing things for myself but for others. Steve

I was praying this morning and the Lord sent me to 2nd corinthians 9...8 you guys might flip open to this as it pertains to what youve been posting at least I think it does, I thout it was my message for the day but it may be our message!

happens a lot here. I've heard just about every story there is. Recently, a nicely dressed young man said he just needed some change to make it on the subway and get to work. What the heck, I gave him a buck or two. Two hours later, I drove by the same spot and there he was! Oh well, no wonder he was nicely dressed; he was probably making more than me :)

I've had obvious drink / drug problem people ask for money. I don't like giving money to people when I know I'm supporting their habit. However, I remember on guy who for some reason I felt I had to give some money... I handed him a couple of bucks and told him he had to use it to buy something to eat. I added, "This money didn't come from me, it came from God. I won't see how you spend it, but He will!" :)

Funny story: Many years ago, Vicky was approached on the subway buy a homeless man asking for money so he could buy something to eat. We both have the same philosophy... so, she handed the guy the brown bag with her breakfast in it: a bagel w/ cream cheese, coffee and orange juice. The guy took the bag and asked "What's this?". Vicky said, "It's my breakfast". The guy looked in the bag, shook his head in disgust and said to Vicky, "You call this breakfast???" (true story)

But one last good story... I saw a young man in front of the supermarket on night; obviously homeless (bottle in a paper bag laying near him). He asked for money for food and I told him I'd get him on the way out. Bought the guy one of those big ready made hero's and a soda. You should have seen his face :) Did get a chance to talk to him a little too.

The young man may remember your kindness in lending him the money for the locksmith and may just pass that kindness onto someone else in need! Just like a rock thrown in a pond....the circle of love just keeps expanding farther and wider! So 7 being God's number....He'll remember your good deed! The young man still may pay you back...could be he was busy that eve and couldn't get back to you!

God Bless!

What I do sometimes is tell them no I wont give you money but come inside the food place and I'll buy you lunch. They rarely agree. Good reply about the $$ coming from God - that's what I say also, steve

left home which was in Kansas and ended up in Texas. He worked whenever he could and many times slept outdoors. One night when it was cold, he slept by the side of a barn and woke up with frost on him. Really was rough back in those days of the 1930's. He hadn't eaten for awhile and asked a guy if he could have something to buy some food. The man took him into a place and paid the owner to give him something to eat and then left. Dad said, if the guy had stayed around, he would have seen how hungry he really was, as he ate and then ate donuts!

My mom and dad both had hard lives....dad was bitter but mom wasn't! His dad ran away and left grandma with three young children to feed and raise! Mom's mother died when she was seven and helped take care of grandpa when she was older with my aunt who was five at the time of their mother's death. She was angry because of losing her mother at such a young age! But that's the way life goes either we turn to God and have comfort or we get bitter and blame Him and the whole world for our circumstances!

Keep on, keepin' on when we can help one another!

God Bless!

You did as God would have us do. If you felt good about it then it was what God wanted. Could be the man used it for booze or other stuff. Then again, maybe he had asked for help before to feed his family and was denied and felt he had to lie to get help. Either way you did good and that is the main thing.

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

Very good message indeed Dave. It does apply to what we were saying.

You and Vicky still contnue to be blessings in my life.
