Im getting better with the quattro...I would like to know if most people when looking for coins use the detector in the coin presetmode or other mode like all metal..From reading some of these post a lot are talking about all metal....Bud

Hi Bud, you might do better in the coin mode until you get a feel for the machine. After you get a little more used to it then start experimenting. Also coin and jewelry might be good too so you can find some nice gold stuff! Ok Bud hang with it and you will be rewarded. Happy hunting.

Bud, the main reason that I see the All Metal mode is attractive is that your literally seeing "all metals", whether you want to dig them or not: everything form super ferous iron all the way up to high conductive silver. The advantage of that is "you get to make the decision", whether you want to dig it or not, based on the numeric reading, (which corresponds to the type of metal or target) and the audio pitch (whether it's a high tone or a low tone) and you make the decision accordingly. It can be more frustrating, because you have to see and listen to a lot more information, but it also gives you more iformation to CHOOSE, from. That's the benifit, it's the fact that you are making the choice, not the detector, because you might have "discriminated" against some type of metal. That's how I see it at least, but I would agree with Wirecheif, that until you get some time and experience with it under your belt, I'd just detect in the coin or relic mode. Probably the coin mode, but, know this, that if you want to, you can set the discrimination at any level you want as well as the audio, whether it's ferrous or conductive, which can make a major difference in the target your reading.
