leaf depth in woods

DWP

New member
how much will leaves affect depths of coins in wooded areas ???? especially over 100 years of time

Tough question to answer.....I have dug 100 year old coins 3 inches below the ground including the humus layer, and 70 year old coins at 12 inches. These variables come to mind:

Deciduous vs coniferous types of trees, ground horizontal or sloped, type of soil, North facing vs. south facing slopes, types of seasons...winter-yes/no, found on trail (hard packed) or other? Found on flood plain?

I have been hunting woods for many years. Some of my oldest and best finds came from the woods. Depending on the hunt location, I use a large coil on my GTI 2500 and also bring along the ACE 250 with the sniper coil. The woods offer many challenges, from hunting steep slopes, to hunting bushes, trails, old creek beds. In real thick bushy areas I either use no headsets, or my wireless ones. Go hunt the woods.....and bring along a camera too! :)
