Hi all
Im here in the U.K and always follow your great forum, would anybody be able to help me identify my lead find,im not sure if its a Token or maybe a Seal,it has a 6 leaf kind of flower on it and is very heavy.
As you can see from my pics its very white in colour.
any help appreciated.
thanks

It certainly has the look of a lead object, a typical whitish crust.

The six petal flower like thing is often thought of as an Irish/celtic mottif over here where it is found carved or painted on 18th and 19th century furniture. Here is Newfoundland.

I think it is either a Russian Lead Flax Bale Seal or Lead Trade Token from North of England. For many decades in the 18th & 19th centuries, Russia was by far the world's greatest exporter of flax stems via St Petersburg Archangel and Riga, and Great Britain was its major customer. The Flax Mill and Weaving Shed at West House Mill used child labour in the form of orphans and paupers ..and they were paid in the Lead Trading Tokens as shown below ..

Pictured below are just a COUPLE examples of MANY from a single dig, there are many different designs.

I think Arrong has it.

Another page puts then in the 1600-1700 time frame as a token. Not popular and easily faked at the time.

This page has a photo of a token similar to yours.

Nice match! Here's the picture found on the link 1859large found. I couldn't find the very same one so I couldn't be sure but I think this one matches pretty well.
