Lead Reeds - Concertina?

Nodejavu

New member
I dug this at a central Missouri site where I also found a Dragoon button and an 1861 French 10 Centime coin.
Any idea what this is a part of? Seems to have reeds like a harmonica. Made of lead I believe.
Thanks,
Chris

It looks like Zinc, the same metal used in some tax tokens. Here are some of the tax tokens I found to compare the color and oxidation. It resembles the oxidation on lead but I would guess your reeds are mounted on a Zinc base. There are other items in these pics but I didn't want to dig out the tokens for new pictures. The only round reeds I could find online were Concertina reeds but I didn't see any that were mounted on a piece of metal like yours and they looked to range in size(small to large) more so than yours.

Thanks Aaron81, it may very well be zinc, I'll look into that and see if I can find out what it is made of for sure.
