I am often asked to speak about the Civil War at various events in Missouri. The other day after one of these events a young man approached me with some relics that he had picked up on his grand dad
 
Dave, I'm not surprised. Remember, people were a lot more self sufficient in those days and items found a host of different uses, limited only by imagination. That said, its a cool relic and rather unique.
 
They are found from time to time and on rare occasion, cast lead CS buttons are found. A friend of mine dug a GA state seal copied from a 2 piece example. Still had the shank in the back.
