LCD screen on Discovery 3000 bad

Hi - I did some research and found that the Discovery 3000 is a Bounty Sharp Shooter II model and felt lucky to find the manual and contacted the vendor since the LCD screen on my Discovery is cracked on the right side and leaked fluid inside it's container. Right now, it still works, but the 50 cent and dollar indicators are black and I want to replace the LCD display. I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron and not afraid of a simple repair, but wanted to check and see if anyone else had seen this before and what their experience of it might have been like.
