I read some of the laws for the state of Oregon ocean beaches as I will be on them for a few days next week and am taking my X705 with me. I am in hopes of getting a few hours of beach hunting in. The laws seem rather repressive to me. One law says you can metal detect on any Oregon beach. Another says any money or valueable found on an Oregon beach must be turned over to the parks director. Then there are Oregon st. salvage laws which could smooth out a real cool, big find and give sole ownership. You must leave any shipwrecks and historic finds alone and contact the state, refer back to salvage laws.
It would seem that the state of Oregon LEAGALY MUST BE INVOLVED in anything you do in regards to the hobby except actually running your metal detector.
Does any one know if I am actually reading these rules correctly or am I out to lunch?
Do they really want that $10 silver ring or $1.53 in change that badly?
I am not thinking that I would be able to call the state if I found a gold coin that was lost some generations ago. WOULD YOU?
