Laws of Metal Detecting

Agseeker

New member
I've been thinking about this for a while and here are three universal laws of metal detecting that I've come up with:

The First Law of Metal Detecting: There is no substitute for skill.
The Second Law of Metal Detecting: There is no substitute for luck. (Sometimes it really is better to be lucky than good!)
The Third Law of Metal Detecting: You can't find it if its not there, no matter how skilled or lucky you are.

What other Laws of Metal Detecting do you subscribe to?

Fourth Law: Do not wear steel toe boots while metal detecting.

Fith Law - "juice" and "roundness" are descriptions of grapes, not metal detecting targets. Anyone nisusing such terms should be pelted with said juicy, round objects.

don't forget "Nectar"

Never judge a book by its cover, some of the worst looking sites have produced amazing finds....but more often than that is that a sper looking site produces NOTHING

Is "sper" related to "ster" ---as in the hole?

You find it....ITS YOURS.....leaving trash behind (if reasonable) (yes, even buried back in the hole) is littering! I always try to collect and take out everything I find, if it will fit in my pockets. Plus it makes you look GREAT if someone talks to you and you can show them the trash youre taking away. Plus a lot of trash is recyclable. Lastly it helps you so that you don't waste time digging it up or detecting the signal again if you come back.

Don't wear rings. One time I scooped up some dirt in my gloved hand, used my pinpointer and couldn't find the freaking target. Duh....!!!!!

NEVER EVER hunt with a headache, it breaks your concentration. Make her stay home the next time. hehehehe...........nge The first statement is very true.

Also, follow your inner self, if you keep looking at a different area than the one you are currently hunting, Go for it, it will turn out to be a better spot. Many times your detector is acting like a "dowsing rod"......nge

ALWAYS rescan and FILL IN your holes!!!

HH,

P.S. Just filling in a hole is NOT good enough if in a groomed field...If the dirt is not packed back in, and the mower comes by before the next rain...It is going to pull your plug up like a vacuum cleaner.

Close doesn't count in metal detecting. If you just missed that 1916D Mercury dime by an inch you may as well have missed it by a mile. Of course you can always take solace in the fact that you'll never know you just missed it by an inch unless your hunting partner is following behind you and starts doing the happy dance.
