Laws and other bummers

I've been thinking a lot about this myself. In the next month, I'm heading over to eastern Oregon to peruse a few ghost towns. In addition to that, this summer, our family is going to the Grand Canyon. On the way home, we hope to stop at a few sites. That made me think of what permits may be needed. I asked a well know detector guru who advised me to not sweat it. Most of the places that I will be going to is fairly inacessable, and of no significant historical impact. I think the biggest point is, if you can get permission, get it. But if it is on BLM or National Forest land, be careful where you hunt, and if you are going to ask, dont ask the low level officials who may or may not really know if you can hunt or not. Ask someone high up on the totem pole. That said, I plan on using extreme care and caution. If you plan on going to schools and local parks, schools are pretty much open, but parks might be best to ask about. State Parks are always permitted. Federal Lands, as I mentioned earlier, is the great grey zone. Maybe you can be a little more specific as to what type of areas you want to hunt?

Check out this info from Broken Detectors. In does directly conflicts with what I just said. Makes the grey even greyer!
