This is my latest x70 find whilst coin shooting in a park at Preston, Lancashe, UK....

Where the hallmark is normally stamped it has "Eagle Art Richard Shorty 925"

Total finds for the day

Nice Ring and other items

The ovoids and u-forms are major elements in their art.

That is an eagle motif. Eagles, ravens and bears are totems and each clan group has one of them on their totem.

Google pacific northwest indian art or visit the Museum of Anthropology , Vancouver BC Canada website and you will see a lot of this type of design.

You could also google the artist name.

Nice find, and worth more than silver value.

A link to some PNW native designs and meanings. http://www.littlebearart.ca/mythology.html

http://www.ihosgallery.com/gallery/item.php?id=182 That is white gold. Your heart can continue beating.

Enjoy!

Many thanks to everyone and especially for the links provided. May I assume that he would produce a one off design for a ring and there wouldn't be anymore copies of that ring? If so, I presume that what you're saying is that it's a collectible and highly sought after piece of artwork 1859 ?

My eyes lit up when I found it as it is the first ring I've ever found in 23 years of detecting. I hope it won't be my last !

I looked around a few PNW art websites and most jewellery tends to be bigger, like earrings and braclets (sp?). They allow more room to develop the design. They go for serious money. I suspect he may have just dabbled with silver work or made the ring to "pay the rent." Young native artists struggle in Vancouver, the big city is expensive and they work hard make money in their early career. That does not make it any less interesting. He now has settled into print making.

It is a nice ring. My first and only ring to date is silver with a Nike "swoosh' trade mark on it. Want to swap?

;) !
