Late Morning / Mid Afternoon Hunt

I decided to do some door knocking so I could find a new place to hunt. At the first place, nobody was home so I left a note, in the door explaining who I was and where I live, asking them to call me if they would allow me to metal detect. Who knows. Maybe I'll get lucky! You never know.

The second place I tried, I had hunted one time before. Again, nobody was at home. Then I remembered an old brick home I saw when I was out driving around one day. The owner was home and told me to help myself. It's an old 1860-1870s home with a very large yard and a lot on the river across the road. Tons of metal trash in the ground there. I hunted many hours without coming up with much until I got this real iffy signal that sounded so good I had to dig it. Not much to look at but I didn't get skunked. Oh, and I also found a 1985 Roosevelt dime and a dog tag. I only hunted 1/4 of the yard in 5 hours. I was very getting very hot. I will hold this place in reserve and hunt it again.

Any setting suggestions? I had the screen wide open in combination with the midline at 18 and 4 tones on the top. Going very slow in Ferrous-Coin and Auto plus 3. Occasionally I switched into Bill S's trashy park pattern and back again.

Nice Buffalo!!! I am still fairly new to the CTX, so I will leave the other questions to the more experienced users!!!

Congrats!!!

Seems like with the open screen you should have gotten some good signals. Maybe there just isn't much in the yard besides trash.....

I've been invited back. I think I will try swinging 90 degree over the area I worked yesterday just to be sure there aren't any hidden goodies. It's a huge yard and took me 5 hours to cover very little. I think said I did a 1/4 of the yard. I don't think it was even that much. Maybe 1/6. What suggestion do you have 4 tone set up and other setting for a trashy area like this? It a GREAT old house and I know there just has to be some old coins there.

Even if it has been detected before it may still have some goodies as I'm working an 1885 home that has been detected before and it always produces. I've thought about going back over it at different angles. Maybe 90 degrees is the best.
