Last Years Relic Finds

Carolina Phil

New member
I did a lot of working and very little detecting last year. The mandatory overtime has finally come to an end though. Before I go detecting tomorrow for the first time this year, I would like to post my better relic finds of 2006. All finds were made in South Carolina with the Minelab X-terra 70.

The back side of the button, backmark is "HAYDEN GREGG & CO./CHARLESTON"

top; harmonica reedplate. I didn't know what this was when I dug it up. Since then, I believe I've read that their are two reedplates in a harmonica. When I go back, I'll be searching for the other one along with the remains of this one.

lower left; old horse tackle, apparently

lower right; UMC New Club shotgun shell casing. The Union Metallic Company was in existence from 1867 until 1911.

Plow. Perhaps the most mysterious item found since it was dug on an antebellum plantation site (along with the other finds). I can't find much information on plows. Could be civil war period or earlier, however it could be a more recent artifact. If anyone has any information, please inform.
