Hello,

last weekend I went searching in the swash area due to rough sea and thunderstorms. Here is what I found...
I include snapshots of fishermen at local port in Ancona , Italy, in the hope you'll enjoy it.

Cheers

Luca

Thanks for sharing that with us Luca. That's some good loot and some great sea pictures. It's especially interesting to me because I've never been to Italy. That's amazing how much stuff you found there. Is there much American coins there or is it mostly European? Very interesting!!!

Hello,

70% euro coins 30% old Italian Lira coins.
Sometimes Russian, US, French, Swiss coins. Since Euro introduction we are making twice the value we were used to in the Lira era since euro coins have a great value. A 2 Euro coin, for example, is about 2.5 us dollars and there is a great number of those coins lost at the beach.
Here are some of the foreign coins I found last year..

Cheers
Luca

Well at least you are in the coins Luca. Ya'lls loot sure does git crusty over there in Italy. Looks like the fisherman had a good day too. I get those starfish things in my scoop a lot too.

Looks like you really enjoy this hobby. A couple of questions, if you will indulge me. As an old retired commercial fisherman I'm curious. How are the snails used, in a soup? Do the starfish have any value to the fisherman and does the old Lira have any value (can you still dedeem it for partial value or does it go in a coin basket to sell for keepsakes)? Thanks & HH

No rings but lots of coins and tokens there. I'd say that was a good haul. I'd be very happy if I found that in one day~

Hello!

There are a lot of ways to cook the snails here in Italy.
A good one is in a tomato soup using some olive oil, garlic, onions, chili pepper and a mix of fresh herbs.
As for the starfish, it is the same question I made to the fishermen there: it loooks like they have no value at all, they throw them back in the sea.
Yes we can still change old Liras! The Italian Central Bank must change Liras till 2010. Last year I retreived the equivalent of 300 US$ in Liras so I'm still searching them. Most of them are left behind by others since they are made of a iron alloy and are "invisible" to MD discriminators and this, at least, is an advantage for those, like me, that use a PI detector.

Any other question is welcome!

Cheers

The snails soup will look like this...
