Pretty exciting pulling an old coin out of the ground not knowing what, just knowing it was old! I didn't even think large cent, came home brushed it with a paint brush to identify. It has a lot of crud on it. Is it worth putting it in an electrolysis bath. Any wisdom would be most appreciated!

Congrats on your 1st largie...i usually try soaking in olive oil a few days and scraping with a toothpic ... while this method is slow it is less destuctive to the coin.... its funny how a coin sits in the ground for 200 years and we are afraid to spend more than 5 minutes cleaning it...well thats how i get sometimes .... congrats...

Yeah I hear you on the cleaning aspect we act as if the coins we are pulling out of the ground are uncirculated mint condition! 95% of the coins we pull from the ground we cash in for dollars to perhaps buy more equipment! I just wanted to be able to see the date I knew the coin was pretty beat up. I used electrolysis it got the coin to where it could at least be seen and dated!

That baby is old nice find
