Last two days digging & a surprise coin!

Went to another soccer field this morning with the X2 only & armed with a fresh battery I started hitting the fields... These fields are outside of town and used to be farm land up until the city got hold of it. So the potential for silver is there. Total clad for both days is $10.91 and an unexpected coin showed up in the mix.... an 1882 Shield nickel!)
This wasn't in bad shape at all and I'm thinking it had to be a recent drop somehow, The people were starting to show up for a day of games and I have no clue which field it came from because I was digging and bagging on the run to get all I could before they started the games up. lol But, you can bet I'll be back though!
Hope all were able to get out and get some digging in...
Jay

Nice find Jay

Gotta love those old shield nickels. I've only found two of them in the last 16 years.

That's a great find!! I haven't got one yet, but still looking. I really like suprise coins also.

Thanks Randy, I was surprised to say the least! lol not what I was expecting to see amongst all that clad.

That's a great find in that Shield nickel Jay.----I've only found one & that was seven yrs. ago (an 1874).----You can hardly make out the date on mine but the one you have is very clearly readable.-----Congrats on that cool find! ---------Del

I think folks are getting into their coin collections here in our area, Lately I've found silver quarters and dimes in my change at the convience stores when i make a gas purchase. This nickel is too clean to have been in the ground all those years.... All I had to do was rinse it off. But I'm not complaining at all! Now all I need is a nice silver half to pop out for me and I'll be in hog heaven.... :smoke:
