last time CTX had software update?

has there been any updates to the software in the last 2 years? Just wondering. One of the reasons I have not bought one is the lack of updates to software. Am I wrong about updates? Maybe there has been updates but nobody has talked about it.

We just went through this 3 weeks ago...search for "Hey Minelab".

Short answer is this:
Last update was last year...when they added Chinese language. woohoo.....
Last REAL update was 2012...when they added to actual functionality.

I'm of two minds on this.
One is that since I own the detector(s), I'd REALLY like to have seen a few specific things improved and added. That's the promise of a firmware update-able machine..."Future Proofing".
But I feel that since they've already got my money, Codan/Minelab can't make any more from me with free updates...so it's off to other, newer projects. :(
(Besides, I'm not in the market for a gold detector, so I'm not even on the radar.)
And that obvious attitude of theirs continues to cause a LOT of ill will throughout the detectorist world.

But my other 'mindset' is this:
It works really well now. Well enough for me to own two.
Why would I not buy something simply because it hasn't been updated...if it already does what I want?
Whether there have been any updates or even if the detector couldn't be updated, ever...it works really well now!

When was the last time you got an update for your eTrac or F75?
Ummm.....never.
Does that prevent you from owning/using a couple of fine detectors?
Of course not.

So I completely agree with you on one level, but think your logic is flawed on another.

Maybe Minelab would have been better off to do like Fisher did on the initial F75 DST teething problems?
Just keep sending the early units back until they get the firmware right...then stick a fork in it, and call it 'done'...no (major) updates, ever.
No expectations. No disappointments.

I don't know the answer...but if do know if Minelab seriously wants to work on another update to the CTX, I'll be happy to help them improve it! :)

I guess I understand your hesitancy to buy a machine if you don't like its current software.
On the other hand, I am perplexed since software updates are easily done over the internet.

pretty sure we all have a choice what we spend our cash on.

time shows character and we are now seeing minelabs and that's all we need to know to make future decisions about what to spend cash on, they tied XP up with a lawsuit they knew they (minelab) couldn't win to slow down their deus gold program release and coils etc.. so minelab could get the gold monster to the African market 1st, although I think XP cut them off at the pass with a deus clone.

functionality is pretty important in a detector and to see the way minelab have responded to XP is a feather in XP's cap as the top dog felt threatened and that's great news as monopoly's only profit the monopoly not the customer so well i think a lot are jumping ship to XP at least they are true to their word and update their detector and where I come from that's important..

so personally I don't care if they issue an update or not my ctx is sitting in the corner with its head bowed in shame :lmfao: as it knows the Deus has a new update.

Since the CTX has been out, it has had only one real update. In that same time period the Deus has had two. Neither one is leaving the other in the dust in that department. Updates are ok depending on what they give you. There's nothing in Deus 4.0 that I wasn't already using in 3.0. The only thing I was using in 3.0 that I didn't have in 2.0 was the 5th tone. There are people who are still using 2.0 because it had the best sounding tones........ Better to base a buying decision on whatever machine out there best fits your needs rather than what they might give you in the future.

Careful now; you're confusing a lot of people. Some even have a CTX already too.

Glug Glug Glug.
Gimme sum MOAR of those CTX Results!!! :detecting:

My only request was for more bins......but really not required, and would need some time to make changes & relearn.

Will stick with what they gave us (locking pinpoint was much needed)

what about the big silver fix anyone running any disc at the 50 & 1 FE up to the 50 line is not hearing big silver its a huge flaw in this platform.

I know it is a great machine. Only, when a machine touts the ability to download updates that there would be something to improve on since 2012. I feel like they are working on the next machine and I a waiting to see if another one comes out. I love my e-trac so much I have not felt the need for another Machine right now.

So as a noob to the CTX 3030 let me ask this question.........what sort of update should there be?

I'm coming from an AT Pro so this has more bells and whistles than my bran can handle at this point, so maybe there is a glaring omission to the setup, but what might that be?

As for a machine having the ability to do updates I think that's great, but don't feel the need to do one just because.

I have an iPhone that gets the update message all the time, and most of the crap is not intended for me anyway so why bother?

The same thing with my Samsung TV's. I get updates from that, but all they seem to do is take things away rather than add?

Maybe I'm missing something, but if it works why mess with it?

if you run as some people do a one square around the screen (disc) stop iron wrapping you will not hear big silver and they wont fix , I recon that's a good update a big silver fix..

anyway just be aware and do some of your own testing who ever is reading this..

I don't want any updates from minelab or anyone else but I have to wonder why I have a big hole in my detector that is a huge leak spot if there is no reason for it to be there they screwed up a good waterproof detector with a good idea that doesn't work...
