It was unbelievably cold out there wind blowing 30mph but ground not frozen yet! This involved 2 weeks of research and finally located the area. Not what I was looking for (a much earlier site) but it is military from about 1858-1860's.

Here is the snow covered field, man the wind was cutting right through my carhartts!

First good hit testing out my new super 12 coil and suprised ground not frozen...yet!

Here is the reason I'm out here! A military button!!!

Found this .69calibre roundball along with 9 others in a small area. This was a roundball spill possibly from the same pouch.

Here's all the finds, they consist of 10 .69calibre roundballs, 1 .54 Starr Carbine bullet (center), colt pistol bullets, a lead keg spicot in background and a general service eagle button!

Thanks for looking and ya'll stay warm!

Super finds. That was well worth the trip out in the field and getting windblown. Makes ya wonder why all the musket balls in one place. Possibly a spill? Possibly a soldier died? If they could only talk! Thanks for sharing and try to stay warm while you're hunting, Nancy

Those are so cool. Very nice button, Do you know if that was a battle field or camp?

My theory would be Nancy, they just crossed the creek on horseback and while trotting up the bank onto level ground, the soldiers pouch lid pops loose and spilled all the roundballs. I'm sure that's how the spill happened but of course we really don't know.

Nice finds.........there's obviously a lot of stuff still out there man wind, snow or not I would go back for more!! You might find a nice buckle or rosette.

Big area to cover ,should be some interesting finds in that field.:detecting:
