Last question on G2/GB before purchase.

Is the limited depth on silver just in the disc mode or will it hit silver deeper in all metal mode? Also...what about clad in either mode?

I do not think you have to worry as much about "limited depth" on silver and clad as you may think.

I can hit 6" to 8" silver and clad coins in my test garden with NO PROBLEM, with the 11" DD coil.

I think one issue is, shallow targets are SO crisp and sharp on this machine, TOTALLY different from the soft "zip" of a deeper target, so it's easy when hunting to get used to the loud, crisp report on shallow targets and forget to pay attention to the softer sound of the deeper ones.

SOME of the early-run GB Pros had a depth issue with silver coins. Not so, on the V4 Gold Bug Pro software (or the G2's software).

YES, more depth is possible in all-metals mode; I can hit coins deeper in my test garden in all-metals mode, but still...that 11" coil, running in disc. mode, will yield you 6" to 8" coins easy, if you listen for the softer tones...

The 5" coil is more limited in depth capability on coins, but good for use in trash. In cleaner ground, that 11" coil will hit some pretty deep coins...

In our Southeast Texas soil I have hit quarters at a measured 8" with the 5" coil, granted, it will be a soft whisper but a repeatable tone which will read 85-87, pretty good for a small coil. John

Agree completely with Steve on all his thoughts above. I have found my share of old silver coins and silver rings at good depth with my G2, as well as a bunch of colonial coppers. It's also the best machine for clad quarters I've ever used. By the way, I've always hunted in discrim set between 35-40 with the 11" coil.

All metal is deeper. Don't let talk about limited depth deter you from the purchase. Depth is really a secondary concern for this machine. What is more important is target separation and stability. The GB has both of these covered. I used to put depth as the most important feature, but found years later that target separation is actually more important.
Hope this helps.

How deep do you want dig? I've dug 8 inches on silver with the 5 inch DD coil. http://www.findmall.com/read.php?80,1609366
