Got a new coil for my Explorer SE and went for a little test spin. Here's what I found........7 various sized musket balls of which two have teeth marks on them, one dropped .52 cal. Smith carbine and a fired .577 or .58 cal. Gardner. Thanks for viewing and HH!!

they argue that if you were being held down and had a surgeon cutting off one of your limbs would you be biting on a bullet for pain or would you be trying to get the hell up and away from the saw. Also they argue that the bite marks are caused by animals chewing on these bullets because they are covered with a fatty grease called mallow ( I think that's the name ) that helps lube the barrel somewhat and some of the chew marks are caused from the bullets lying in a gravel type area leaving the indention's appearing to be bites. The expression "bite the bullet" was originated from the soldiers biting the bullets for pain in the CW. I have around twenty of the bullets with bite marks and some definitely look to be wide human type teeth marks. I don't know!! Here's a pic of a few of them. Notice the marks on the bottom left one. That looks like human teeth marks to me!!!

When you had to go into surgery back before anesthesia I would guess. But that pretty much meant amputation...

Either my father or one of my many brothers told me that one!
