Last Night's Euro Sabre Hunt

Sven

Well-known member
Got my Euro Sabre back from Gunnar and finally got out last night to do some hunting with it.
Attached a 8x9 spoked coil to it, went out and had some fun.
This is basically the first time of actual hunting with it, before sending it to Gunnar I only had it a short time. Just able to do some back yard trials and bench testing
as I had surgery....... to deal with.

Spent about 3 hours getting used to the way the Euro reponds in all the mods.
It has All metal and three disc modes. Which makes for some interesting hunting.
For the first hour or so hunted in all metal mode, then switched into disc mode for target checking and comparing then digging.
What I found interesting was the three disc modes and how it can be used for coin and jewelry hunting.
Disc modes, iron blank, normal disc, iron audio disc. You can sort of work out a notching, target check system.
Set normal disc to reject which ever target you like foil, nickel like you would on a reg. Tesoro. Set the disc toggle to normal disc.
Now if you hunt in all metal mode, you can switch the toggle to disc mode to check a target like a reg. Tesoro.
When in disc mode, you can flip the toggle to iron blank, no target sound, you just identified the target as iron. Flip the disc toggle to normal disc, if set to reject a nickel and you still get no tone,
you know its a target above iron and below nickel. If you get a target response, you know to dig.
Now if you hunt in iron audio disc, you can get a variance of tones, mainly three. Low for iron, rolling tone (helps in Canadian clad) and a high tone.

After about three hours of digging the good'in and the trash'in you start to develop a feel what targets could be.
We didn't find too many goodies, pretty well picked clean school yard but, made for a good learning experience in id'ing trash.

Was more than happy to get the Euro back, reminds me of the Eldo I had back in 2009. The 3 disc modes is a nice bonus for me.

Thats some interesting information regarding the settings on the Euro Sabre, although a very good machine and also designed mainly for the European market sales in the UK have never been stellar, not sure why i guess mainly due to the fact that although its a very capable machine it lacks the screen that most folks prefer these days.

Glad you are getting out again

Sven you really cleaned house , in that spot . I know that baby is deeper than the silver , I found it gives high tone on the high conductors, and low high on most aluminum and brass and gold can give a low high most Iron will give a low and more so if off center , a very good machine I liked it better than the Vaq, its to badd they stopped making it definitely one of the classics, and the three modes are very useful. its got the outlaw beat ,
