Out last night to an inviting surf and sunset to work the low tide after some pretty rough surf from the passing cool front. I think most of the fronts with rough weather we have been getting have just been sanding us in. From sunset too 2AM I was working the low tide line, wet sand, trough, sandbar, eroded cuts and beach, but still have no silver or gold to show. Don't even want to tally up the hours I've spent hunting the waters/beach with the Xcal 1000 since I got it with no great find to show...Is their a GOLD switch I've forgotten to turn on?....... All my nice finds have come from the beach sand so far this year, and all with the Xterra 705!
I've been using the Xcal in PP most all the time since targets are not so plentiful, and it gives me some experience to try to ponder on what I think I might be digging. I'm not opposed to doing some extra digging after using the DF and learning it's tone for the past couple years.
Couple of junk rings and an earring, $1.21 change ( Xcal hits hard on deep penny's), Aladdin's castle token,(are they still around?) think... a Mexican coin. and a bunch of trash. Not going to give up on the Xcal, but might take the DF out for an adventure next....might help to punch down a little deeper for that elusive gold!! GL ALL

Now thats some tough duty! Sundown to 2am! Great post describing how hard beach/water hunting is and rare it is to have those good days between all the miles of empty sand.
Well, you are due to hit something of great value besides all the exersize and peacefulness, which of course is priceless .

Tried the low tide last night....It was an even lower tide than Wednesday night but the surf was way up, and unlike the usual calm that is found between the sandbar and beach on a low tide, the waves were coming right over the bar and making the trough a wavy mess. Stayed out of the water and just hunted the wet sand for a couple hours, besides the usual bottle caps and tabs,... I dug up 2 junk earrings, a quarter, hot wheels and some leaf design thing.
