Last Hunt of the Year-Lucky 7's

Yesterday morning dawned warm(41 degrees) and partially sunny, but the forecast was for rain. No problem with the AT. I did not want to waste gas by driving too far with a bad forecast so I stayed local. I went to a spot where I had not found one silver coin this year so I was not expecting too much. I had hunted for about two hours with 20 coins including one 1918 wheat penny. It started to sprinkle but the sky looked clear in most directions so I stayed hunting. My next target was some sort of pendent with the number 7 on it. The loop for the chain was broke and it rang up in the high 80's. It was sterling and about 7 inches deep. On Monday, my wife and I went to the local casino and I hit the lucky "7" two cent slot for 10,000 credits(two hundred bucks) Five red sevens. I am thinking this pendent will be my new lucky charm the next time I visit the casion. Now, the rain is falling much harder and I decide to start hunting back to the truck. I had not gone five feet when I got a high tick mixed in with iron grunts. I dug my plug and found a short rusty bolt at about five inches. Recanned the hole and got a sweet high tone that read 90. Several inches deeper I see the rim of a silver coin. 1934 Washington quarter. My oldest Washington and the last find of 2011. Lucky 7! Everyone have a safe and prosperous New Year! R.L.
