Last hunt of January

It's still cold but the day was supposed to be in the 40's. The wind was strong and cold. I hunted at least 3 hours and came home very tired. Too tired to stay awake and count my finds. I crashed on the bed and today Here is what I found.
(1)- dollar coin
(27)-quarters
(27)-dimes
(4)-nickles
(79)-pennies
(2)-keys
(1)-token marked(no value)
All in all a good day. Hope it gets warm soon......

Not bad at all for such a short hunt.

Those numbers are staggering!
Did some quick math.
I think you lost track of time, or were finding multiple coins in a single dig. Didn't even include time for trash. WOW! That's a serious haul for a single outing.:yikes:
Us detectorists will never go hungry...we can always find enough change for a can of beans!!

Three hours? That's a powerful lot of finds, even for an all day hunt. WTG. Keep 'em coming.

total = 141 (and that's not including any garbage you might have found)

If 3 hours is equal to 180 minutes. Let's divide 180 minutes per 141 finds = 1.28 minutes per find.

That's an amazing digging time. Are you using a pin pointer? Shovel? Did you fill your holes? Where do you find the time?

Next time use a time elapse camera and post it on youtube - it would be great to see.

Now he did say that he hunted for at least 3 hours. Time flies when you are having fun.:)

Seems real to me, I normally find that much when I go out and normally don't go for 3 hours at a time. But then again I have days when I find very little and in the almost 30 years of detecting I have seen only one other person with a detector and I only saw him the one time.

Really, you get in the right area and get fast with a screwdriver, and are just sweeping for shallow drop high signals, or kicking chips in a totter, or anywhere for that matter...those numbers are not unusual...if you are digging plugs, then yeah, it would be hard to hit those numbers in that time..you get good with a screwdriver, and really want to sweep up a stinky heap of clad like this, you wont even bring your trowel along... hell, you wont even be kneeling, just sort of stooping and stabbing and grabbing...look at the numbers again...all high signals with the exception of the nickles...thats fast cladgrabbin' boys, just a differrent style of detectin is all...and its a hoot!...Thats good hunting Jim! :clapping:

Come on guys.Jim is a top hunter........... he is very capable of the posted finds and even more in the right area.....

Good Job Jim..Thanks for sharing.... appreciate it..

Here in NW Oregon we've had a very wet and miserable January. December was about to set a record for the driest ... ever! Then we got some rain, and snow in higher elevations, and broke the 'driest' status. January, around the Portland metro area, we usually have about 5

Actually I have to give the nod here to my equipment. The golden with the csc on it will out pinpoint any other coil I use. I do not get the depth of many other detectots but the sheer speed that I can target and get on to the next target is a very big plus.
I just swing the coil side to side till it disappeat and the target will be right at the front of the coil when you lose the target.
Plus lots of practice.
I know that I left the house at about 9:35 am and returned at 2:15.But the park is at least a mile and I don't run.
So it is somewhere between 3-4 hours max.

Jim knows a secret! Jim knows a secret!

Yep, CleanSweep coil. I'm still thinking about getting one.

You will work yourself to death if you find a school, playground or tot lot that has been around for some time and has never been hunted. Glory Hole!

I usually find these glory holes in the really bad parts of town where most people don't want to detect. I find lots of modern lead bullets at those places.:)

The first thing that I do is cherry pick it, because someone else might be there tomorrow detecting it. I've had a bunch of 150+ coin days.

On the other hand, I've had days that I couldn't find but a very few coins.

"An impressive percentage breakdown of 138 coins, Jim. My friend I have been keeping tabs with had a 130 coin-count Saturday. Playgrounds had very few coins so he concentrated on a grassy area by a high school and then in front of the county fairgrounds. Finding 130 coins in a day was a record for him, but so was the percentage of those blasted pennies."

Monte,

I'll bet that you and Jim are two of the rare people who keep tabs......
